Civil Wedding Vows

What is the symbolism behind the marigolds used in Indian wedding ceremonies?

I have always wondered why Indian ceremonies use this flower. Is it simply for aesthetics or is there a meaning behind it? Thanks!

  1. There are Many flowers Some good some Bad Some that will get you High some are used for Honey good on shrimp by the way the Indians Manly used it in pow wows also Used as Rose pedals also Known as Rose Bares our something
  2. There is always meaning in the choices aboriginals made for their ceremonies. You how ever didn't specify if you were referring to Native Americans (Indians) or Residents of the nation of India (Indians)... They are often used in funeral celebrations to reflect a celebration of longevity. Below is a Wikipedia article talking about them more. For what its worth, Michael
  3. In Hindu (East Indian) weddings the colors of red and gold predominate. Marigolds are a lovely rich orange/gold color. Flowers in general form a very important part of Indian weddings because they are seen to be a symbol of creation and regeneration, and are believed to bring good luck and happiness. All flowers are considered pure, and therefore an acceptable offering to ancestors, spirits, and gods. So the significance of marigolds is not restricted to weddings and is a combination of the colour and the general symbolism in religious offerings
