Civil Ceremony? I just got engaged and we are planning to have a civil ceremony And, a reception or party afterwards. Usually when I think of that I'm thinking just standing there and saying wedding vows. Do they allow us to have a wedding party. I know they allow up to 8 people to invite. But, I was wondering if I'll be able to walk down to a wedding song. and carry some flowers. I would like to send out invitations and have a nice wedding cake for the party. Any suggestions on how we should do this. We have been pre approved online to sign our marriage license we haven't done yet. But we have 60 days until we would need to marry.
Tips and websites on a civil wedding ceremony? My fiance and I are not really religous so we are opting for a civil ceremony. Does anyone know of any good websites with tips and sample civil ceremonies? Does anyone have any personal tips or ceremony readings? Thanks in advance!
Can a non clergy perform our wedding ceremony after having the civil marriage? We have obtained our marriage license and will be married in a civil ceremony at City Hall. The week after that we are celebrating by having a second ceremony and inviting friends and family. I was wondering if since we will already be officially be married do we still need to hire a wedding officiant of the clergy to perform the second wedding ceremony or can anyone do it?
Has anyone ever gotten married in a civil ceremony and then had another wedding later? I am thinking of marrying my boyfried twice. The first would be in a civil ceremony where we live and the second would be a destination wedding abroad (more to our liking). He can't travel abroad right now due to his immigration status so we want to have the "dream wedding" a year later or so. Do you know of anyone who has done something similar and how was it? Please share. Thanks.
What are the steps to take and how long does it take to get a civil ceremony together? I am looking to have a small civil ceremony since my bf is going off to Afganistan soon and we don't have a lot of time to plan the big wedding.....we will do that when he comes back..... how long does it usually take to get the cival ceramony or even chaplin at the armory together? What are the first steps in planning this and just making things go smoothly? We are in western new york if that helps at all.
Are we required to exchange rings at a civil ceremony? My boyfriend and I are getting married next week in a civil ceremony at city hall. We don't have rings to exchange. Are rings required for a civil ceremony? We'd rather save the money and put it towards the house we're buying.
Where to put the ring before the ring exchange during civil ceremony? Where do we keep the rings before the exchange during the civil ceremony performed at the county clerk's office? My boyfriend will have pockets since he's wearing suit. But what about the bride? Where does the bride keep her ring before the exchange since I won't have any pockets? Thanks,
What can we replace the kiss with at our civil ceremony? My partner and I are due to have our civil Ceremony next year, only problem is my family are not keen on the idea of our same sex relationship, also we have young children attending who's parents might not want them to witness us kissing. So does anyone have any idea's what we can replace the kiss at the end of our vows with. We are really desperate for some ideas. Thanks
What to wear for a civil ceremony? I first thought my fiancee an I would be having a ceremony at a chapel, so I rushed online and bought myself a wedding gown. We have changed our minds and have decided upon a civil ceremony at the courthouse to keep costs at a minimal. Now, I don't know whether I should buy a simple gown or wear the traditional looking gown I have already bought. Please Help!
Should we tell guests that the civil ceremony is not going to be same day as the wedding celebration? My fiance and I are planning to have a civil ceremony and don't plan to invite anyone. This is because we have a destination wedding and there are complications with getting a marriage license at the destination. I plan on telling my immediate family that we are having the civil ceremony beforehand but we want everyone to feel that the real wedding is the one that we will celebrate with our family and friends. Should be open about it or tell people only if they ask?
Are you allowed to have a religious wedding after a civil ceremony? My boyfriend and I are thinking of having a civil wedding ceremony ASAP for insurance reasons. However, we have our heart set on having a regular religious ceremony as well. Will a pastor performing our religious ceremony have a problem if we already have a marriage license? Do we have to tell our guests that we had a quick ceremony? Neither of us will feel truly married until it is in a church under the eyes of God, but the circumstances prevent that at present. We are both teachers in California and both grew up in Michigan, so we want the religious ceremony to be in MI. Also, since we're teachers, we want it to be this summer. So, bottom line, is what we want to do OK? A few more details--we both are incredibly religious and having the religious wedding is important to us. There's just no possible way for a while. We have been dating for 5 years and living together for one and acknowledge that our current situation is not the way God intended it to be. Gifts are not an issue to us at all; we just want a celebration with our family and friends.
can I and my GF get married in a civil ceremony in Manila even if she is in London? I am working in Manila and my bride to be is working in London. We plan to get married through a civil ceremony. How Is this possible?
What happens during a civil ceremony at City Hall? What's it like? How many people can I bring? I live in New York City. I'm getting married this month, and we were planning to get married at City Hall for now. My future husband's brothers, and mother want to go, so do my parents, and two of our close friends want to go. How many people will be able to see us get married? What is the ceremony like? I've never been to a Civil ceremony, I have no idea what it is like. Do we get to say vows? What's it like? Please please let me know :)
Suggestions for readings at a civil wedding ceremony? Getting married soon and we're struggling to think of good readings for the civil ceremony. Could be poems, song lyrics, quotes etc. Probably having three readings so wouldn't mind a mix of traditional and more modern.

Would it be inappropriate to have a civil ceremony now and an actual religious Hindu ceremony later? I was raised Hindu, and my boyfriend is of Christian faith. We want to get married because we’ve been together for quite a while and are very sure and secure about each other staying together for the rest of our lives. We want a civil ceremony because we want to live together as a married couple and make it official. The both of aren't religious. We both are Hindu (me) and Christian (him) by birth. We are both Unitarians.
Civil ceremony required for marriage certificate? My fiance and I have been together for 6 years and will finally be getting our marriage license at city hall this month. We want to be married, but do not want the civil ceremony. Can they issue us the marriage certificate without going through the whole formal ceremony of exchanging rings and vows? Sounds weird, but we've always wanted a marriage, not a wedding.
What is a civil wedding ceremony like? My fiance and I are thinking of having a small civil ceremony since we are not religious. I do want some family to be there and I also don't want it to be in some drab courtroom. So I guess my questions are, is it ok to have a few guests and can I decorate a little? Or is it just go in and do it and get out? Please, if anyone has had a civil ceremony or has been to one please tell me what to expect! Thanks!
where to eat after my Civil Wedding Ceremony? I'm getting married in 3 weeks. Its going to be a basic Civil Wedding Ceremony and thats it. I dont know where to go after that. Its going to be like 15 guest. I dont want to go to go to any fast food restaurant. I was thinking on something not that classy or cheap. I live in Santa Ana, Ca. Does anybody know any good spots?
Will the Catholic church marry us if we have already been married in a civil ceremony? My husband and I were planning a big wedding. My husband even received all of his sacraments through the R.C.I.A. program at our church. Unfortunately, I became extremely sick and was diagnosed with lupus. I had to quit my job and lost my health insurance. My husband tried to add me to his but needed a marriage license to do so. We eloped with out telling anyone. Eventually we shared the news and our families were both very happy for us and still wanted to plan a church wedding. We have been married for 3 years now and have a beautiful 15 month old son. We wanted to receive the sacrament of Holy Matrimony on our 4 year anniversary, however, we were told that we could not have a Nuptual Mass because we are already married. If the church does not recognize civil ceremonies then were are not technically married. Right? If this is the case we should be allowed to have our Nuputal Mass. What do you think???
What to wear to a civil ceremony? I am getting married on August 13th 2010 and its just going to be a very small civil ceremony. I am now stumped on what to wear lol simple but beautiful, doesnt have to be a dress. any ideas would be great
Does anyone know of a wedding officiant for a non-religious, civil ceremony in Chicago? I'm looking for an officiant to do a civil wedding ceremony in the Chicagoland area, possibly in March. Does anyone know of a good person to contact? Maybe a judge? Please don't tell me to look in the yellow pages or Google. I've been doing that. I'm asking here at Yahoo!Answers so that someone who actually knows someone that used an officant can give me some specific information.

Can a Pagan handfasting be included in a civil ceremony? Me and my partner are due to get married in 2012 and we both want a traditional Pagan handfasting ceremony. We are aware that Handfasting's alone are not legally binding and would require a civil ceremony but is there a possibility to have a civil ceremony with a handfasting included in one process? We live in Swindon, Wiltshire in the South West of the UK. I do ask if you don't know anything about Handfasting, Paganism or civil ceremonies not to post
After a civil ceremony, how do you renew your vows? Blah, I don't know much about this. I'm planning on having a civil ceremony at the courthouse, just to get it over with. Eventually we want to have a "real" wedding, either in the States or in the Philippines. How would I go about doing that? What should I know? Do I have to get another marriage license, especially in the Philippines? What is the process? Sorry, I'm a noob at this, lol.

What should a flower girl carry at a civil ceremony? Hello Yahooers! I am getting married civilly in a couple of weeks and I need to decide if we'll have a procession entrance. I am leaning towards having my dad walk me in and all that stuff. Now, what I don't know is what I should have my flower girl carry? Top choices are flowers, candles (but its a day wedding, so not to keen on that) or a basket with petals. These are all nice ideas, not very original but I am not a super original person, but perhaps someone out there can help me disguise that fact and advise me on something? Many thanks to all!
What to wear for a civil ceremony? My Fiancee and I are going to be getting married in a courthouse next month, and we are not having the actual ceremony until next year. Does anyone know what I should wear for this?? Pictures, Opinions, anything... :) thanks!
How can I blend Hindu ideas into a Christian/civil wedding ceremony? I am marrying my fiance, who's family is largely Hindu. Neither of us practice any religion in particular. We both agreed to having a traditional Christian-style wedding ceremony (white dress, tuxes, being walked down the aisle, Canon in D, etc.). Since a close friend is officiating, we can writing our own ceremony. The content of the ceremony is mainly a civil ceremony, with the theme of friendship. However, we'd like to somehow bring some Hindu elements or themes into the wedding to respect his family members. Any suggestions?
Do you have to have rings in a civil marriage ceremony? My fiance and I are getting married in a civil ceremony first to get through immigration stuff (he's American, and I'm Canadian) and then we're having a bigger wedding later. We want to play this civil ceremony down as much as possible so to not take away from the actual wedding. Do you know if we have to have rings? Has anyone else been in this situation? He's coming here...we're going to live in Canada.
Civil ceremony, is Marvin Gaye Let's get it on, good for a fun exit? We are getting married in October & have been wracking our brains trying to find a song to walk out to. We have more traditional songs for my entrance and the signing of the regestary book but just can't come up with a song that we both love for leaving; except, Let's get it on. Which is also a song we are going to have on our wedding film. We thought it would add a fun element for the celebration to follow. What do you think?
Will the Catholic church marry us if we have a civil ceremony first? My boyfriend is in the military and we are in a long distance relationship. When I graduate from college in May I would like to move to be with him. We want to get married and if we have a legal ceremony, the military will recognize me as a wife and we would save for a church wedding and reception in a year or two. I was brought up Catholic and I'd like a priest to marry us. Will a priest perform the ceremony if we have a civil ceremony first? It is NOT about the party. But I am not about to have a pot luck dinner for my wedding. We are currently living almost 3 hours apart and going to counseling by a priest just cannot be coordinated with us living so far apart.

Would a lutheran minister attend a civil wedding ceremony? I've heard that lutherans don't like to mingle with non-christians, so I'm wondering if I should bother to invite my cousin, who became a lutheran minister recently, to my upcoming wedding? I don't want him to get into trouble on my account.

What does a best man do at a civil ceremony? At the actual service. Do I hold the rings? If so, do I give them to the JP? Give them to the groom? Put them on a fake bible? Then do I sit down, remain standing, do a little dance? I'm confused. Cheers
